Our Story

Kor Kitchen was born from love; love for family, for heritage, and for the comfort that only a good meal can bring.

When our founder, Sophia Zekria, left her home in Afghanistan with her husband and young daughter, she carried with her the flavors and memories of the life they had built, the smell of simmering spices, the laughter of family gatherings, and the warmth that comes from sharing food made with care. After a long journey to safety, she found herself in California, far from everything familiar, yet determined to rebuild a sense of home.

Cooking became Sophia’s way of keeping that connection alive, a bridge between past and present, and a way to share her culture with her new community. What began as small gatherings in her kitchen soon grew into Kor Kitchen, a place where Afghan flavors and stories come together to celebrate belonging, resilience, and love.

Every dish we serve carries a piece of that story, from the rich, aromatic Kabuli Pulao to the delicate Aushak dumplings, each one is made with heart and gratitude.

At Kor Kitchen, we believe food has the power to connect us, to remind us of where we come from, and to help us feel at home wherever we are. When you sit at our table, you’re not just tasting Afghan cuisine, you’re sharing in a story of hope, family, and the joy of beginning again.

Welcome home.
